Union Pacific #844 is known as The Living Legend. UP 844 has never been retired from service and is the only standard gauge locomotive to maintain that status.
I photographed the Fireman's side of this loco in the UP Steam shop facility in Cheyenne, WY. I wanted to get a closeup of the drivers or wheels as some may call them. I also wanted to get a closeup of the side rods.
There are over 50 different layers and masks that I created and generated to produce this image. I wanted the drive rods to reflect cold steel. I illuminated the marker lamps.
