Description
You would almost think that this is the Duke riding off in the sunset, but it is not John Wayne. This rancher outside the San Juan Valley in Ridgway, CO is named John though. I photographed him and two of his friends during the last hour before sunset on his cattle ranch. His saddle, chaps, and spurs were over 100 years old, his coat was 75, and his boots just over 80. His hat was also over 75 years old. He looked the part of a western cowboy because he was the real deal.

The life, rather than the scenery, of the West - erect in the saddle and riding off into the sunset. Nicely dramatic. Congratulations on your 3rd place win in the recent The love of the West contest.
