Description
This former Denver & Rio Grande Western K-36 class steam locomotive crosses Lobato Trestle just outside Chama, NM on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad.
The steam coming out on the sides of the locomotive is called cylinder or boiler blowdown. When the boiler gets to a certain point of pressure, the fireman will release steam to lower the boiler pressure to a safe operating level.
