Description
It is 1982, and the Denver & Rio Grande Western is operating its section of the California Zephyr for the last season. The following year, Amtrak will take over the operation. #5771 will be reduced to service as a work train and serve on the Ski Train. Hard to imagine that this locomotive saw service as passenger, freight, Royal Gorge, Ski Train, and more, during its time on the D&RGW.
This is a composite image of D&RGW #5771 as it would have looked like back in 1982. Today, it sits at the Colorado Railroad Museum on display. I photographed the train in Golden, and the canyon is Cascade canyon from the Durango & Silverton. 32 layers later, this composite image was completed.
After the addition of layers, I added a painterly effect to this. I wanted the image to look like an oil painting.
